I got exposed to art at a very late age (31 years old!). I don’t want the same experience for the rest of my family. So, for my 35th (!!!) birthday, my wish was for them to get “cultured”. Our first stop: The Yuchengco Museum!! 🙂
So, why the Yuchengco Museum and not some other famous museum in Manila? Well, I have never been there and from the outside, it seemed quite small. It is a very good place to start, so that art newbies will not become overwhelmed by too much displays. Too much, too soon, too boring. (Di ba, Miggy? Hehe!! 🙂 )
The museum has a gallery of authentic Rizal Artifacts, a gallery dedicated to the Yuchengco family, and a gallery for current exhibitions.
My favorite is the Masters Gallery where they have the works of Juan Luna, Felix Hidalgo, Fernando Amorsolo, Botong Francisco and many more. (Oh my, by the way I namedrop, you’d think I’m an expert. Hehe, I’m not.)
I am not quite an Amorsolo fan, but I really liked these two paintings. (Anton and Mig must have LOVED them, hehe!). Bottom right picture is by Cesar Legaspi.
Here are some works by H.R. Ocampo, Jose Joya and Ang Kiukok.
Hope you enjoyed my pictures. This weekend, do yourself a favor and spend time away from the mall. Go to a museum instead. 🙂
